I also gave them a scanned copy of my passport and driver's license as well as other personal information. What should I do if this is a scam?

  1. It's a scam and you gave the scammers all the info they need to steal your identity.  Notify the authorities and make sure you talk to an ID theft specialist about what you should do now.

  2. If you won some money you shouldn't have to pay any fee's excepct to the gov for taxes ., so It is a scam.  Dont send them any money or you will lose it.  They will use a name that people are familiar with ie Yahoo but add other letters or numbers so that they dont get caught copy writing the name..

good luck and dont send any money!!

  3. It is a total scam. You just handed them all the information they need to steal your identity. Notify the local authorities.

  4. Well, you are on your way to having your identity stolen. There should be a building you can go to to claim your prize if it legit. Never give money to get money. If it is legit they can take the taxes out of your winnings. If they will not give you a number to call to claim your prize then it is most likely a scam. Sorry. Hope you didn't give them too much information, but from the sounds of it you have.

  5. Congratulations, you are now the victim of identity theft. Expect a few criminal records to appear in your name.  Also, expect about 1,000 Credit cards to be opened in your name. Your credit rating is going in the toilet man.  I can hear the sound of your future being flushed as I type.

Are there REALLY that many morons on Yahoo Answers who think there's a Yahoo Lottery? Is it REALLY that hard to type the phrase "Yahoo Lottery" into a search engine and hit the "Submit" button???

I used to post debunking information to these questions. Then I just set up a web page with debunking information:

Now, I no longer care.  If these people are too stupid to spend 10 seconds looking something up, then they DESERVE to get taken in by the Yahoo Lottery scam.  The people who fall for this scam are morons who can't do 10 seconds of research. No one really CARES about stopping this fraud. h**l, even Forest Gump would stop and think "But I didn't enter any Lottery, there's something Wrong here."

  6. Of course it is a scam. They wouldn't be asking you for money if if was a legitimate lottery. Not sure what you can do now that you have given them all this personal info.
