Is the 6 speed tranny on a 2008 harley davidson good or bad?

6th gear is just an overdrive, I never use it unless I'm running well over 70 MPH. I don't really see how it would affect engine temp.

The '07's had fifth gear noise issues which were solved ... the 08's fixed that... FYI to all those that think the 96's DON'T run hot- you are wrong... fact- HD mapped lean to pass EPA- fact- Oil temps are running in excess of 255 degrees (means the alum is NOT dissapating the heat)... our tests show internals in excess of the 330 degrees that the 88's run.... The new XWedge from S&S runs internals of 290 degrees with no oil cooler... that's an engine that dissapates heat. Does'nt mean the HD's are bad...  I run an '07 screaming eagle 110 BUT I have two oil coolers on it. Just get your fact's straight guys.

the tranny is great, has nothing to do with making the motor run hot.... but the motor does run hot until it's been remapped, all workable

My 08 Street Glide has one and I love it. 70MPH at 26-28 hundred RPM. No, if any thing it makes the engine run cooler (less RPM). People say about HDs 96" engine running hot, but I think that's just people wanting to bash HDs. I've been buying HDs since 1960 and it don't run any hotter than the other ones I've owned. Hope that helped.

The reason why people think the motor is running hot is because the new jugs have about 15% more fin area than the old ones, which dissipates more heat away from the engine, which makes the uneducated rider think the new bike is hotter than the old bike.

Take a look at an older motor and notice that you can fit your hand between the jugs, then look at the new motor and notice that you can't even start your fingers in between them.

The six speed tranny has been very reliable so far, it's a little less noisy than the five, and it'll end up giving you a longer life for your bike because the average RPM will be lower.
