I'm getting a new machine and for now I am going with the 8800 GT 1gb. I am going to be running sli mode with two of them probably within the next year.

Is this a good budgety graphics card to start out with?

  1. thats a pretty good video card but you should consider the 8800 GS. it is better than the gt with justa little overclocking and i got mine to play crysis on high at 40fps. if you want even better performance you get the 9800 GTX for 180$. i would rather have a 8800 GS than a gt. i am getting a 9800 GX2 but that and the GTX 280 would be overkill for you

  2. With recent price drops, that's an excellent card for the money. The 8800GT is a great buy at $125... But for $30 more, you can get the faster 8800GTX.  For $50 more you're looking at the awesome 9800GTX+ and Radeon 4850.  Yes. the ATI card outperforms all of them, but with an SLI motherboard a pair of 8800GT or 8800GTX cards is better.

  3. Thats an awesome card buddy!!!

that too with SLi.... no words to express its performance....

    Congos.... :)

  4. the GTs is kind of lacking the 9800GTXs just dropped to $200 and they rock thats what i'm using but it all depends on what types of games your playing and if you even have the room in your case for the series 9 and 200s cause they are huge but you would be better off with the 8800GTX then the GT

  5. I recently purchased an 8800GT oc from Newegg and absolutely love it.  My single 8800GT outperforms SLI 9600 in many benchmarks for a fraction of the cost.  Only needed one card and did not need an SLI capable motherboard/power supply.  Of course since you're planning on going SLI in the future, you'll want those.  But the card itself is great.  I really like mine and it has easily run everything I've thrown at it so far.

  6. I'd go for the 9800 GX2, but depending on your budget why not go for a 8800 GTX? I'm personally getting a 280 GTX...
