Is the A.L. East now a three horse race instead of a two?

Are the Rays going to hang around? Are the Yankees in the mix for good now? Will the Red Sox surge to the top, or plummet to third? Which teams will be involved in the race for the top of the A.L. East?

  1. The Yankees are known to be a second half team, and yes, the Rays are sticking around so, it's going to be between the Sox, Yanks & Rays. The Yankees lead-off hitter Johnny should be playing again in about a week and Chein-Ming Wang should be back by the end of the season, but near the end.

  2. I think that none of the three top teams will be going away anytime soon. This is going to be a race til the end. As much as I hate to admit, I think that the Red Sox will be in first when the season is over. As for the Yanks, they will finish in second and get the Wild Card. And the Rays, while I don't see them fading away in the background, I don't think their second half will be as great as their first. They will slip to third by the end but all three teams will be in the mix until September.

  3. 3 horse race definitely. I don't think you can count out any of the 3 right now. Anything could happen.

  4. Figuring in their scheduling for the next two weeks, I think by Aug. 1, we'll have the Rays in first, the Yankees 1.5 or 2.5 games back, and the Red Sox about 4.5 games back.

  5. Even before the losing streak of the Rays, I always considered the AL East a team race with the Rays, Red Sox & the Yankees & though most haters always say it will come down the Rays & Sox but always overlook the Yankees, who are always a better second half team.  The race shall be competitive the rest of the season

  6. 3 teams separated by 4.5 games sounds like a h**l of a 3 horse race..im hoping the AL East is going to be the nail-biter division to watch, where it all comes down to that last series in september  (which by the way is a Yanks/BoSox series and the Rays have Detroit)

  7. All 3 teams will be there in the end.  I really believe that the Red Sox will win the division based on their schedule (19 of last 28 at home winning .800 at home) and the Yankees will finish 2nd.  They were 14 1/2 games out at the all star break last year and only finished 2 games back by season's end.  The Rays will be a close third, but are REAL contenders this year.  This makes the AL East the most compelling to watch.

  8. The Yankees have a tough schedule hopefully they can hang on and win the division. Hopefully Phil Hughes comes up soon. It's a three team race..>>>>>>>>Here Come The Yankees.

    Watch out.

  9. yes you have 3 good teams and now that the yankees are hot i could see them come back.

  10. Who said the Yankees were out of the mix? I wouldn't count out the Blue Jays just yet either...they could get right back into the race in the next couple of weeks with games at Baltimore and then a couple home stands against the Mariners and Tampa Bay...the A.L. East could easily be a four team race on August 1st.
