Question:

Is the AFL another way of saying "dictatorship?"?

If players or coaches disagree with any aspect of the game, they get fined. They can't say what they really think for fear of forking out money. Where does all the money go? And who are the people who determine how much they have to pay? It seems to me that freedom of speech doesn't exist at the AFL. There's too much money to be made.

  1. you make a good point here .   People bag coach's for stupid comments , or being away with the fairies, but really thats what the AFL DICTATE!   The coach's can't say what theyr eally feel, or  think and believe,  because the AFL will fine them.    Its no wonder coach's talk total c**p, Sheedy and the Marshmallows , Malthouse whatever comes to mind, its a joke and the coach's treat it as such.  The AFL in real terms, is a ucked organisation, administrative wise.  Geez, hope I don' get  fined for that !

  2. Umps should be as accountable as players, they are well paid and like everyone make mistakes but shielding them from suppoerters, players and coaches anger only makes things worse!!

  3. couldnt have said it better myself...

and to JACKSON customer service fool...

    i agree completely!!

    adam goodes= PROTECTED!!!

that man should be shot! haha

and hawks coach (whateva his name is) is probs gonna cop $10 000 fine 4 makin a joke bout an umpire..

    i thought it was hilarious...

  4. Sounds like Hitler.

  5. Boo Hoo

Have you only just came to thisw conclusion?

This has been the case in the AFL for several seasons now. The main cause for concern is the shroud of protection placed over the precious umpires.

  6. I agree with you there. Maybe if the AFL let players and coaches express their opinions, more improvememnts could be made to the game!

  7. Watch A-League.

  8. huh

  9. **I agree totally with you.  The umpires get looked after pretty well in that respect.  The AFL is very protective of them and it's disappointing that the coaches can't discuss them publicly without getting fines.

It's different when a player makes a mistake and has to pay the price!**

  10. With their fines, if it is anything like league, they just reduce the amount of the club's grant by the amount of the fine(s).

All the AFL is doing is what we were all told when we were little kids, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

  11. REPORTED

    naa just kidding

money makes the world go round

the money actually goes in a collection bin to buy the swans out of trouble year after year

  12. I have to agree with this one 100%. I think that as long as players/coaches go about it the right way, they should be able to pass comment on any aspect of the game. I think the umpiring is a classic one. The umpires seemto have a rather inflated opinion of themselves - you only have to listen to some of the c**p that comes through the microphones on tv! From memory, the money that James Hird paid when he had a dig at them was put towards umpire developement (Money well spent hey!!)

  13. We need more freedom of speech in the AFL.

That is to allow our coach to complain more; whinge more; whine more; complain about rules; complain about umpires; complain about having to travel blah blah blah.....

Mick covers his inadequacies by blaming someone else; something else....or the elements......He must be allowed to continue doing this otherwise he will have a complete mental breakdown!

  14. Carn the Blues!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is the black hole, we will never know

  15. You are spot on mate, agree 100%,   they wouldn't know if a rat crawled up their A%$#.  they should pay attention to what the supporters want some time and not appear so bloody arrogant,   they should have a look on here from time to time to see what people are saying.

We have some good questioners and answers on here, why won't they pay attention to the people who line their deep pockets?

  16. Yes, this is one of my pet hates. Don't criticise umpires publicly. Keep it in house else you're bringing the game into disrepute. The preciousness of these people is ludicrous. The umpires can make glaring mistakes, can cost teams games, and coaches are not allowed to let their frustrations fly? The holier than thou, superior attitude of AFL is a joke. Just fine them, don't make a mockery of the process with a letter asking to "please explain". Its bl00dy obvious.

  17. 100% agree with you. it annoys the h**l out of me. how is the game going to improve if the coaches can't have their honest opinion about the umpires/game without fearing theyre gonna get fined?
