Is the African nation of Morocco in the Eastern or Western Hemisphere? How do you know this?

  1. Going by the strict defninition, Morocco would be in the Western Hemisphere, since it is west of the Prime Meridian, 0 degrees longitude, which is one of the dividing points for eastern and western, the other being 180 degrees longitude.

    By common understanding and usages, Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia are normally "Eastern" Hemisphere, and the American continents are "Western" Hemisphere.

    Note that parts of Europe and Asia (extreme eastern Russia--Siberia, near Alaska) as well as parts of Africa are "Western" by technical definition.

  2. Eastern Hemisphere.  In theory, Morocco should be in the Western Hemisphere since it is west of the prime meridian.  However, the Western Hemisphere is mainly for North and South America and specifically excludes countries in Africa that are west of the meridian.  

    However, further down in the reference, Morocco is considered  in the Western Hemisphere.  It all depends on which definition you want to use.  See the website below.
