I guess you mean the "Jonas" kids.  No it is not popular with normal people in this country.  They just think they are too cool to cut their frizzy hair I guess.

I think the first person to give you an answer was wrong.  The afro hair style is popular in the US I think the trend started a year or 2 years ago.  I recall seeing the hair style on many latinos and african americans.  I believe a lot of the white kids picked it up too.
