  1. Yes. He was the first philosophy to give a solid foundation to the notion that government is protect our life, liberty and property. The declaration of Independence, the most American document ever, can be read as a purely Lockean document. The pursuit of happiness is the pursuit of property.


  2. Possibly. I don't know that much about him, but he had all those ideas about everyone deserving human rights and stuff, right? Liberty and happiness. I guess so - but then, the American dream isn't just from his philosophy, but from many, and from people's inner desires.
