Is the Amtrak California Zephyr train any good?

I wanted to take the Empire Builder but I think Im going to be taking the California Zephyr. Is it a nice train?

  1. They are both nice, I know the Empire builder goes through some absolutely fantastic scenery but too much of it is in the dark LOL.

I have never ridden the train but from what I have heard and read the Zephyr is indeed one of Amtrak's nicer/finer runs although it tends to get delayed quite a bit (read, more than usual) when operating over the Union Pacific's rails (of the two large western Class I railroads, BNSF Railway, does a much better job of keeping Amtrak time), so I hope time is not an issue.

    Quite honestly, I would highly recommend the Empire Builder as well.  Of all Amtrak's long distance/intercity trains, it is by far the finest and, along with the CZ, will take you through some of the most breathtaking scenery throughout the country.  Whatever you decide, have a great trip!
