15 year career with the Angels. The 36 year old Anderson has 2,312 hits, 1,003 runs scored, 478 Doubles, 268 HR's, 1,265 RBI's and a career Batting Average of .296. Players like Anderson might start being looked at more favorably by the writers after he retires, because he has never been linked to steroid rumors and has had a pretty solid career. If he can play 5 more seasons, he could theoretically get to about 2,800 hits, 375 HR's and 1,500 RBI's and a career BA over .300. Is he a borderline future Hall of Famer?

  1. no. not a difference maker.

  2. Your predictions would put him in the same class as Harold Baines. You predicted 2800 hits, 375 HR, 1500 RBI (108 more HR but only 235 RBI's?), BA over .300 (unlikely since he's currently at .296 and hasn't hit over .300 in 4 years).

Baines' numbers were 2866 hits, 384 HR, 1628 RBI, and a .289 BA.

Here are Baines' vote totals the two years he's been elligible.

    2008 28 votes 5.2%

    2007 29 votes 5.3%

Garret has been a good, solid player but will not be a future Hall of Famer based on his current or projected numbers.

  3. Anderson is a good solid player, but I would think probably a long-shot for the Hall of Fame.

  4. He was never the best. He could but problably won't unless he gets 310 BA 400 HRs 1500RBI and at least 2800 hits but as he is older the Angels could get someont to replace him, so no he won't make it

  5. Unless he has a couple of monster seasons during what is normally the decline phase of a ballplayer's career, I would say no.  He's a quality player by any measure, and if the HOF ever did what it should and reorganized into a 3 or 4 tiered system, he'd be a good  candidate.

    The tiers:

The immortals, say the top 25-50, Ruth, Cobb, Mays, Johnson, etc

The greats who carried their teams: Banks, Gwynn, Boggs

The very good who were never quite the best: Jenkins, Molitor.

Either productive longevity (Blyleven) or high peak performance (Maris)

I also think they should have a separate wing for great players with tarnished images, Shoeless Joe, Pete Rose, Barry Bonds.  Given their accomplishments, they belong in a museum, just acknowledge their flaws.

  6. I dont think so- the big question is can someone step into the role and run it just as well as he did and I think there are plenty players that can/could.  You have to remember that in todays world players get paid better so they take better care of themselves and play longer careers so the qualifications for HOF status go up.

I'd think he would need 3000H, maybe 500-600 doubles, definitely 300-400 home runs and over a 300 average.

  7. not in the MLB HOF..hes just not standout, a good player in his own right but just not a guy who makes you look at him and  say "that guy should be in the HOF" and its not really career numbers that do it, its how many consistent seasons a guy has excelled above the rest of the league

only 5 seasons with 20+ HRs..only 4 seasons with 100+ RBIs only 5 full seasons with a .300 BA or better

sadly as good and as clean a player he is, hes not HOF material

  8. Now its he LA Angels

And I dont expect him to get in

  9. Im a Yankee Fan but Garret Anderson is The Only reason why I support The Angels. I have always supported him he is my favorite player on that team. Yes he is a Future Hall of Famer.

  10. No, he's not even boarderline.

  11. No. Simply, I think that he's very good at what he does, but not outstanding enough to make him a HOFer.

  12. Although the Hall of Fame committee won't care that he's played his entire career with the Angels, he does have good, but not great stats. As a position player, there are two sure fire ways to get into the Hall of Fame. He can hit 500 homeruns or get 3,000 base hits. Your predictions don't have him doing either of these, so his chance of getting into Cooperstown is slim, but a chance is a chance, no matter how small.

  13. the hall of fame is a longshot imo, to really get considered you've got to reach some of the "magic numbers", like 3,000 hits or 500 home runs, and he won't reach either of those numbers...plus, as has been mentioned, he is not enough of a difference maker

  14. he shlould be. he never took steroids. but for sure,i think that the angels should retire his number.

  15. GA next to Figgins is my all time favorite Angel!  I definitly think he is a candidate for Hall of Fame, hopefully he stays healthy enough for another season or two to secure it!  I think he only  has another 1 or 2 in him with his knees.  His number will definilty retire as an Angel.  It is funny how this year alone he beat Salmon's title and Salmon has been Mr Angel himself!  Hopefully the Angels dont trade him away, with the Of being so stacked so that when he does retire, he will have stayed with one team the whole career.
