  3. It most likely is the oldest since golf started  in Scotland and England. Tom Morris , the elder was the champion who reigned for years.

  6. I believe it is, and the proper name is the "Open Championship".  We refer to it here in the states as the British to distinguish from the US Open, but since it was first it should be called the Open and ours the US Open.
