I recently got a Nexstar 8SE and I need portable power. Would you guys recommend the Celestron Powertank?, or is there any other alternative and cheaper way to get energy (specifically from a portable power source)? What products are out there that you'd recommend?

Also, how long should 8 fresh AA batteries last in the Nexstar?

Thanks, you guys are the best!

  1. Personally I think it is overpriced.

I got my power source from the local car parts store.  Schucks, Napa Auto Parts...any of those.

Important to change the fuse in the plug so that it will not over power your telescope and short it out.  I put a 1amp fuse in the plug itself.  My power pack also has jumper cables and air compressor too.  That way if I am out in the field and go to leave but cant because I need jumper cables or i have a flat tire, I can fix right there too.  My husband loves the air compressor part for the tires to the RV and for the bicycles.

I got it on sale for $30.  What a deal.  I have never once been cut short of power either.
