  1. Yes, it's hard to get out of the sun for this one, although not impossible. There are places where you can sit along the way and get into the shade and have a bottle of water or cold beverage, but you would need to cover up with a long sleeved shirt, confortable cotton pants a hat and lots of sunblock.

It's worth it though! It's a fascinating place and I'm sure you'll love it!

  2. Hi,

I will say from my experience you can see the ruins without the Noon-day sun. You can do it in the early morning and the late afternoon and see the night show.

What you do is spend at least one night at the resort at the ruins.. mayanland resort, the resort has its on entrance and its free if you stay at the resort. A plus is you will miss the big bus tours. You can find the resort on line and make reservations. You can rent a car at the Cancun airport and drive the toll road to the ruins. There is even an exit sign.

This could be your plan drive to Chichen Itza early morning arriving at the resort in the afternoon. Check into the resort and relax. As you feel safe about the angle of the sun take a walk to the resort entrance, make sure you make reservations for the night show, its a light show and has a great deal of information about the Mayans and the ruins. During your late afternoon tour you can find places for shade that will help you with your next day tour. The are a number of trees on site and you can walk inside a few structures. One place that comes to mind is the Market Place and the tree lined walk to the Great Cenote.

    Enjoy....

  3. Yes, there is precious little shade at the Chichen Itza site.

and it can be brutally hot.I would suggest that you try to be there for either the first or the last tour of the day when the sun is at the greatest angles and you can find a little shade in the shadow of the many structures. There is also a full time paramedic stationed at the site if you have any trouble(look for or ask about the location of the ambulance). It goes without saying that your first line of defense is to dress accordingly. If you use caution I think you will do fine and have a memorable experience.

    Buen Viaje!

  4. Yes, it is very much in the sun! and the heat in the shade is still like 110. i would suggest LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of sunblock and an umbrella for shade. i went there and had to put sunblock on literally every 10 minutes and i still got red. you will need to do something to protect yourself, because it can get really bad for you out there!

  5. just walk with an umbrella

  6. Yes it is.. Chichen Itzá its a very large place (like 2 hours walking) =) Good Luck!
