  1. you can do some damage yes. but its really useful

want your ip address type ipconfig /all

do a google search on commands

  2. Who said? He must be wrong. DOS is the most powerful operating system. Even u can delete virus using the command prompt that you cannot delete from your PC. Do u know that?

The meaning that it is unsafe is that, use it when u know what u r doing with little of knowledge. For example, when u give a delete command, it does not ask u "Are you sure you want to delete this file?". It simply deletes the file. There are much to know about it.

It is safe if u know what it is.

  3. You can s***w up your computer just as easily surfing around in folders and deleting random stuff.

Just learn how to use it before you do, and you'll be fine.  People only say that using the command prompt is dangerous when either they don't know how to use it or they don't trust you to use it.

  4. Are you talking about "RUN"? Or that black and blue picture with the title "command prompt"?

I use the black and blue picture. The "run" thingy doesn't work right.

"Unsafe to use"? No. It doesn't do any thing. You have to type stuff to do anything unsafe.

The "command prompt" isn't some game or office application. It's. . . hmm.

    No. Its not unsafe.

  5. Since the command prompt (C:\) appears when you're at the command level (the system that Windows attempts to hide from you)

if you're in the command level of your computer (where everything happens), and you don't know EXACTLY what you're doing, you can do major damage.

I'm assuming if you are asking the question that you are at a command prompt (or you've seen one here and there) and you don't know what to do with it.

      ^ ^ ^ ^

Leave it alone!  The command prompt is probably NOT your friend.

  6. Well - there are less protections when using the Command prompt - like if you use the command >DEL *.* it would delete the entire directory and there is no recovery.

  7. Depends how you use it and who you are. If you are just playing around and dont exactly know what you are doing then you can mess some stuff up accidently, but if someone gets hold of your computer your life can be ruined and there is NO recovery. Unless you spent last night backing everything up which is very unlikely. =]

  8. The number one, two, and three causes of s******g up your computer are not having any idea what you are doing. It is possible to s***w up your computer without a command prompt, and it is possible to put the command prompt to good use without fscking everything up.
