Question:

Is the Depo Provera shot for me?

I have three kids and I know we don't want anymore. I am catholic, so there's that whole issue with not using any prevention, and I don't think surgery is what I want to go through for either of us. Anyway, back to the catholic thing, we use condoms now so I guess I don't take the catholic ruling too seriously. I thought the shot might be a good option??? Anyone get the shot? What are some pros and cons in your experience?

  1. I was on the Shot for 7 years and i didnt experience any problems as the women above did. so here are my pros and cons

Pros: NO PERIODS!!! woohoo!, dont have to remember to take a pill everyday, as long as you go to your appointments every 3 months there is no way you can mess it up

Cons: weight gain (not too much but its noticable), You have to take calcium suppliments because the hormones in it affect your bones, mood swings (after 7 years i felt like i was on permanent PMS)

I got off of the depo after 7 years because of the reasons i listed in the Cons section. I did not experince anything bad after i got off.

I am now on Paragaurd (IUD) and im loving it! there are no hormones so its an "all natural" birth control method. so im enjoying life as a woman with normal cycles and souped up on hormones!

  2. Omg!! The shot is not for any woman!! No matter what their religion is and so forth!! Try getting a Norplant it lasts 5 years!

  3. Depo is not for anyone who likes to be healthy IMO.

Depo treats a majority of women quite horribly.  I would consider another alternative.

    Please read the reviews here:

    And google depo provera lawsuit.

  4. There are two things that I do not like about depo shots: 1) you don't get your period (not that it's a bad thing, but having my period makes me feel like a woman) and 2) you need to get a shot every 3 months and it seems painful in the patients that i have seen (the shot is given at the hip area). I think the intrauterine devices (IUDs) like paragard or mirena is a better choice. it lasts for 10 or more years and is very effective. The only downside is that you need to go to your gynecologist's office to get it inserted into your uterus. I do not want to insult your religion, but I think the IUDs are good because you don't have to worry about getting a shot and going to the doctor's office every 3 months. That's just my opinion. Hope it helps :)

  5. OMG!! Find some other way! PLEASE! I didnt want anymore kids myself! and i was on the depo shot for about 7 years! Its been about 5 years since my last shot! and I have sooooo many problems from it! Periods come with soooo much more body ache!! To me it seems everything that comes with a period, has intensified! since I've came off it!!

Due to the depo shot, I have alotta problems with my hips!, and my back! not to mention the emotional effects that really never go away!

PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR!! DONT GET THE SHOT!!! Its not worth it even if you dont want anymore kids!!! Please dont do! I can tell you soo much more as to why not to get it! The only best point about it was I didnt have my period for years! and in the long run it has messed me up sooo bad! Like I said I could go on 4ever for the reasons NOT to get the shot!!!! If you want anymore info please email me! I will gladly tell you more about it!

PLEASE DONT DO THIS!! ITS NOT WORTH THE LONG TERM EFFECTS IT CAUSES!!!

    BEST WISHES!!!
