Is the Earth in the movie WALL-E an accurate representation of how things will be if we fail to change?

Unchecked consumerism on a mass level has to have some sort of effect. Thinking about the end game of such as collective mindset brings this movie to mind. Strangely I found the movie to be an optimistic tale that yes, humans can change..... eventually that is.

If we don't kill ourselves by other means, a pandemic, or change our ways- the potential is there. The potential for a lot of terrible and great things is there. The amount of time and many other variables will influence that. Unfortunately, the liklihood of our planet *resembling* something *similar* to that Earth is entirely possible and sad.

It'll take thousands of years to accumulate such trash. By that time, we should be able to re-use most trash.
