Question:

Is the Earth warming or is it measurement error?

Personally I'm still undecided on which makes me a skeptic in the eye of AGW advocates. But today I found a couple of sites that are interesting.

http://www.climateaudit.org/ has studied this as well and found that NASA GISS hasn't corrected for these artificial temp increases. Doesn't that call into question how much, if any, warming we're seeing in the US?

http://nzclimatescience.net/images/PDFs/co2scandal.pdf will no doubt be jumped on as a denial site but they raise some interesting question on the long-term record as well based on Antarctic ice cores. Primarily I wonder why we rely on core samples which are somewhat contaminated during extraction and contain particles that might remain airborne for decades or longer before being frozen into the ice instead of

  1. The world has been warming since the 1970s when there was a big fear that an ice age was eminent. It has now in the last decade to the last few years, started to decline. This shows just how much we knew about how our climate worked then and how it works now: nothing.

  2. How about this on the global warming thing.

I have a home in Panama the country.

They have no seasons there as you know, and it has been settled by educated people since before the mercury thermometer. In 1797 we begin with our written record of the weather there.

Every day we have the same high within six degrees, and the same low withing 4 degrees for 200 years. In 1997 we set a new high, by only one degree. Last year we hit that high a record 41 times. It is just one degree, but it is direct measurement of a new high that is being reache more often there.

And its a jungle down there. You can tell from the airplanes that there is barely electricity there. Nobody has a heater and care is taken by everyone very naturally to minimize the number of artificial heat sources LOL.

At any rate I want to call into question the whole flat earth thing. I have sailed the seven seas literally, and every place I went it looked pretty flat. I am pretty sure that it is flat.

  3. The earth is, in fact, no longer warming.  Global temperatures leveled off in 1998 and are now on the decline.  There is so much information coming out now that can refute almost anything a global warming alarmist has to tell you.  All you need to do is find the information yourself, since you won't hear it from the news media or any politician.

  4. scientists say the earth is warming at a very fast rate

  5. to your first point.

most temp reconstructions minimize the effect of these sorts of errors by taking thousands of measurements. some of them are bound to be inaccurate but they will not effect the final result much. also global temp reconstructions don't tend to take into account citty temps, because of the heat island effect so that you will not have a skewed result.

the ice core records are not relay important as evidence from AGW direct measurements and basic physics can tell us all we nee to know.

PS that last link is interesting because it uses past temp proxies Even though it is discrediting them.

  6. I would say its about level now.

  7. If you don't agree both that mankind was the proximate cause of the late 20th century warming and that it will wreak devastation, they call you a "denier."

If climatologists don't agree, or think it's an interesting but unproven hypothesis, they're not "legitimate" climatologists.
