  1. Technology, as in Information Technology, IS communication.  So English Language Arts are defintely important toward technology. What good is the technology if the persons using it do not know how to effectively use their own language?  And how can the speakers of other languages use it if someone proficient in English Language Arts did not first translate it into other languages?

We are in a global economy, and English is one of the major languages of that economy.  This is why we see mastery of English as an important skill for workers in foreign countries.  Many of them are surpassing our own young people (in the US) by their ability to use English correctly.  But English Language Arts are MORE than speaking English - they are about synthesizing and expressing ideas, about reading and analyzing texts, and about responding to written and spoken perspectives.  Those who are proficient in English Language Arts are therefore proficient in the skills necessary to understand EVERY other subject matter taught in schools, universities and on the job.   EVERY language teaches its young people the "language arts" unique to that language, so they can become effective communicators.

Effectivity, skill, communication.. these are all concepts integral to technology.

  2. Art is a Technology to a certain degree

  3. Do you really think those programmers, database analysts, network analysts, communication specialists and the likes write operation manuals?  No way.  English majors do.  IT people HATE writing manuals.
