Is the F1 team of Hamilton and Button the best ever?
Formula One is a very popular sport all over the world; it is loved from Monaco to Korea. There is an interesting aspect of the sport that may seem strange to some fans but is a necessary part of it anyway; two drivers race for
the same team and compete against each other while still being teammates. Sometimes this creates a great friendship and a healthy rivalry, whereas at times it creates a lot of animosity among drivers and problems for teams occur. There are a lot of good teams
at the moment in F1 but in some the camaraderie is better than others. The team of McLaren is one such team at the moment but as the racing heats up the, cracks in the duo may begin to show.
McLaren is a very strong team at the moment but there is a real contest heating up in the championship as we move to Korea for the next race in the season. McLaren is trying to counter the threat that Mark Webber poses because
he is in a position to win the championship by having a 14 point lead at the moment. The current points standing in the driver’s championship are Webber at 220 points, Alonso and Vettel at 206, Hamilton at 192 and Button at 189 with three races left in the
season. The McLaren team is going to be very aggressive going into the Korean Grand Prix and will try to take the lead early on and win the race in front of Webber. We will have to wait and see if they can pull it off or not but they are certainly going to
give it a try. It does look as if Webber is too fast though and it will be very hard for anyone to catch him.
With the season heating up, it brings to light an interesting aspect of F1. The fact is that all of the teams that are in the championship have to have two drivers who compete against everyone else and against each other as well.
This happened earlier this year when Ferrari driver Felipe Massa was ‘ordered’ by his team to let Alonso pass him and win the race. In all teams in F1, there is a number 1 driver and a number 2 driver. In Ferrari, Massa is definitely the number two driver.
This inequality can cause problems and demotivate drivers as well.
At the moment this does not seem to be the case in McLaren. Even though Hamilton is the number 2 driver in the team, he is currently ahead of his teammate in the points table. The two drivers may be able to gain some momentum against
Webber because they are all going into untested waters this weekend. The next race is to be held at the new Korean circuit which has never been raced on before. With the fact that it is untested and new, it might make it easier for the McLaren boys to do their
homework and get ahead of the competition. With the level of understanding and friendship that is going on at the moment between the two drivers, they can really work as a team and keep Webber, Alonso and Vettel at bay.
The interesting thing to think about here is if the McLaren team does manage to get ahead of Webber in the Korean GP this Sunday, what will happen when they find themselves fighting against each other to win the race and claim
the much needed points. We will have to see how much camaraderie and team spirit they display in that scenario. Most fans speculate that they will end up fighting each other tooth and nail for the win. This is all guesswork at the moment because the pace at
which Webber and Alonso are capable of going, it will be very difficult to stop them, but that is the beauty of the sport; anyone of these talented drivers can win the race and anyone of them can be champion.
