Will it last a long time? What do you think of this cage?

  1. I absolutely ADORE this cage. I have it for my 5 boys, and it's great. Compared to other cages, cleaning it is pleasant! The doors open up the entire cage, so you have access to everything. To clean it, you just remove the pans and wipe them down. It has wheels, so it's easy to clean underneath it or roll it outside to spray the whole thing down every once in a while.

The only drawback is the bar spacing. It's 1 inch, which is too large for young rats and small females. But that's easily fixed with some hardware cloth and zip ties.

    In short, YES! Absolutely! Definitely!

Here's a link to a forum thread of people posting pictures of their Ferret Nation cages, to give you decoration ideas and such. :] Good luckk!

  2. Depending on how many rats you have, this cage might be overkill.  While I agree with the person above how it looks great for 5 adult rats, it might be a bit much for a person who only has 2.  Plus the bar spacing makes it not so great for baby rats.

Another cage to consider (depending on the number of rats) is the rat tower by Martin's Cages http://www.martinscages.com/products/cag... (the one toward the bottom).  I have that for my two girls.  I got it powder coated with a flip lid which has made cleaning it pretty easy.   It has a lot of room for the rats to climb around and lots of places for wheels, toys, hammocks, etc.

I also bought some cheap linoleum tiles (15-20 cents a sq ft) from a hardware store to put on the wire floors.  The wire floors can hurt your rats if you leave them as is.  Plus the tiles make it a snap to wipe up messes.  If the tiles get gunky, you can toss them and go buy some new ones.

Martin's has other larger cages that are great as well that you can check out if you have more than 3 rats.

Side note: Does the ferret nation cage have a way to be open between the two main parts?  It looks in the pictures that people are using them as two separate cages, but perhaps I'm confused...

    Hope that helps!
