  1. I love downtown and I allways stay at the Golden Nugget when I am there. I do want to try some other places but the pool with sharks just keeps me coming back at GN. The only thing that I would say is that if this is your first trip to Vegas would it not be better for you to stay on the Strip surely this is where you want to be. You can get good deals at the Excalibur maybe not as cheap as the Fitz but if you are planning on getting cabs to the Strip and back this will easily make up the difference.

  2. The Fitz is cool. The only draw back with downtown hotels is that you have to find transportation to the Vegas strip.

  3. There's 275 guest reviews online here, after a quick Google search:

    http://las-vegas-hotels.tripadvisor.com/...

From a user review point, it's ranked 107 of 259 hotels in Vegas and the average guest review reflects this: 3/5 stars on average. Reading through some of the reviews, it seems pot luck on the staff you get, but the rooms seem pretty basic. As long as you don't go expecting luxury, you should be okay..

I'm going to Vegas (hopefully) in November for a conference. I've been essentially ranking hotels by user review for Vegas ( http://www.expedia.co.uk/LasVegas-Hotels... ) to find a good buy. My advice would be to go on the user reviews, then post on Yahoo! Answers to get specifics about your shortlist.

  4. The Fitz is a perfectly good place to rest your head downtown. The nice thing is that it's in the heart of downtown, so you can enjoy all of the other places that are within walking distance. The Golden Nugget is the jewel of the crown downtown, so be sure to check it out if for gambling, dining, etc.

Also, check out Fremont East: http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Government...

while you are in the downtown area. Lots of cool bars/restaurants/clubs.

    Hope this helps!

Good luck and enjoy the Fitz,

    Mike

  5. I've stayed there.  Its not fancy like a strip hotel, but it was clean and did the job!  how often are you in your room anyway?  Id rather not spend 500 dollars a night on a room just to sleep in...

And transportation to the strip is easy!  Right across from Hennessey's (the big beer pint, can't miss it) theres a Duece stop that goes right to the strip.  The Duece is a double decker bus that costs 2 dollars for one way, or 5 dollars for 24 hour pass... It goes the whole way down the strip...

  6. It's not the best place downtown, but it's certainly not the worst. I'm told the country stars tribute show is suprisingly good. There are two restaurants with decent menus and a bar that overlooks the Fremont Street Experience. If you earn comps at the Fitz you will probably eat well.

It's been rumoured to be on the verge of bankruptcy for years (privately owned so no public records). If you plan on gambling big with the hope of building up a player's club record for future offers you may want to go to one of the Boyd Casinos to do your gambling. Boyd operates, "The Fremont", "Main Street", and "The Californian" downtown. They have several casinos all around Vegas, and are in the process of building a mega casino on the strip (currently on hold due to a weakening economy). The Fitzgerald has sister casinos in Reno, the midwest, Tunica, and Chicago area but no other locations in Vegas.
