I also suggest you simply make a search, and you'll certainly find the infomation you need. Also read about Quebec French on Wikipedia, the article there is excellent and also talks about intelligibility with European French.

  2. French in canada is rustic form of french...it's quite different than metropolitan french because it has more anglophone words and even sentence structure. I find it difficult to understand the quebecers because the people from let's say not from montreal speak quite quickly and irregularly...and they sort of mumble through it but if you watch simple plan speaking french on youtube...they all have a different way of speaking the most difficult to understand is pierre bouvier!! I can't comprehend his french for the life of me...

  3. It's different in the way the British, Australian, and American - English are different. It's the same language, just with a different accent and different slang terms. Personally, as an American who is learning French, I find it easier to comprehend French-Canadians than actual French people because Canadians tend to have a lighter accent.

  4. I don't know if for a person who doesn't have French as a mother tongue, it makes a big difference. But for us (I'm French), quebecois is quite different, they have a totally different accent, many different words and expressions. When quebecois start to speak fast with slang word, we sometimes don't understand them (maybe it's the same for them).

It's quite the same with French belgians. But when we speak with Belgians or Quebecois, we (and they too) articulate and use classic french, so that we can understand each other.
