Reading the news and watching t.v became a nightmare in this country with daily news about women and young girls being raped and killed by crazy husbands, boyfriends and thugs of the streets. The sad reality strikes you when you see the grieving families, police news conferences about the crime. courts appearances of the criminals and the media pundits analyisng the gruesome details of the crimes . Will this ever gonna stop? What do we need to do about it? What the Government has to do to combat it? And why they're not doing enough? When will the day come when u see women are more secure in the streets, their homes and at their workplaces? Do we need to educate men on how to become more human when dealing with their wives and girlfriends? Being a World traveller i can tell u the US is the worst, any idea what should we do to bring back the sanity to this insane World? btw, i'm a man , but feel passionately about this issue!

  1. The Government can't stop any of us from doing anything we wish. There are consequences for actions later down the road for everything we do, good or bad.

Actually, the US is not the worst. We are one of the better countries. The Muslim nations are by far much more dangerous for women. News of their beheadings, beatings, mutilations, lack of formal education and other atrocities are just not reported as much as news is reported here.

Thank you for caring so much. You must be a kind hearted individual. Never lose that side of your nature. God bless ya!

    Best wishes. ♥ ∞

  2. I think we need to adjust our laws, more sever punishment for the criminals. and we also need some community work to adress this issue.

  3. Yes, the government is doing plenty, now it's up to local authorities and individual women to protect and stand up for themselves.

  4. Europe has not got high domestic abuse problems? Are you kidding? 1in4 women in the UK will experience domestic abuse at some time in their life - government stats, don't panic not made up by some angry feminist that most on here berate! 2 women week in the UK murdered by their partner or former partner, and almost every 8 weeks a man takes it on himself to murder his entire family!  As for stranger crime, women live in greater fear and anxiety which often belies the reality.  However, we have a pathetic conviction rate for rape in this country, less than 6%. Our tariffs for murder of a wife/partner are risible.

Europe's domestic violence figures are often absent as they simply have not recognised it as an issue yet, a little worrying when you consider the eagerness to shout about human rights in the EU.

So, I agree with the Asker, government not doing enough, as a society we don't do enough to condemn male violent behaviour.

  5. 4 out of 5 murder victims are male. http://www.ojp.gov/bjs/cvict_v.htm#gende...

Wives assault their husbands as often as husbands assault their wives.  http://www.eric.ed.gov/ERICWebPortal/cus...

But, all you hear about is violence against women.

As noted, there are many places that are far more dangerous for children, women, and men.

  6. I don't think it's so much an issue of combatting violence against women as much as it is an issue of educating people to respect one another and educating men on being more respectful towards women.

If men were more willing to relinquish some of their power in society, women would have a greater say in what goes on and would be able to have a faire voice in making decisions that uphold their rights and protects them.

As a man, I commend you for being passionate about this issue and I definitely welcome the interest of more men who feel strongly about violence towards women and start changing something.

I would encourage you to start with yourself rather than relegating responsibility to the state. For example, educate your peers on women's rights and on treating women with respect. Love, respect and support women and ask kindly that they do the same if they don't rather than placing blame on them (I'm not saying you do this, just making suggestions).

Hold other males accountable when they disrespect women.

Listen to women when they talk, allow them space to voice their concerns and relinquish control over situations. Don't talk over them. Don't interrupt them.

These are all things you should do for anyone regardless of gender of course. However, these kinds of attitudes are the foundation of respect towards women, and by giving women more space and allowing their voices to be heard, we are building towards a more inclusive and respectful society. This will not eliminate violence, but it's a first step and it's something you can do and encourage anyone to do without relying on the government.

In the meantime, yes you can definitely encourage the government to combat violence toward women, but I think it's equally important to improve the quality of lives of women.

    Thanks for your question.

  7. Violence against anyone is a serious issue, but how many more laws protecting women from all sorts of distress do you want? Check out Section 4 here http://www.freewebs.com/feminism-evaluat...

  8. Violence kills many more men than women. I don't see how it's a gender problem. Violence is a problem that affects everybody, not just women.

  9. I don’t want to rant but I may sound really bitter about this.  people who haven’t gone through it don’t know how bad it can be.

Just for example rape victims fear coming forward not only because they are scared but because lawyers can minimize sexual offenses as ‘jokes’ and portray victims as promiscuous or a w***e when it is a total lie.  I consider that tampering with victim.  In places like Saudi basically a rape victim is a w***e, but it is not that different in the US.  The US is suppose to be advanced but the legal system can employ shaming?  It is completely bogus.  And the worst part is how fat these lawyer’s wallets get.  They’re gross.

In my state the police tell battered women that there is no self-defense law when there is.  People know they do it but no one is doing anything to stop it.  all you can do basically is ue them in civil court and most of the people who are victims of this can not afford attorneys and so the police no that they can say that to them to begin with.

I think that the government should fund women shelters and provide more of them or at least just women’s rights outreaches.  That way everyone is paying for them and maybe people will give a d**n.

which countries are you comparing us to anyway? just curious.

look to the responses on this board for an answer.  people here are full of ****. they look at victims and say 'that would never happen to me.  just no.  never.'  instead of asking themselves what they would do if they were in that situation.  the US is full of propaganda that isn't backed up by facts.  a lot of people would rather act holier than thou and look through rose colored glasses or give cliched advice like 'start with you/it's education'  yada yada yada.  abuse starts in the home or results from disorders like narcissism and socio/psychopaths and then its reinforced by ignorance and turning a blind eye.

the best laws against sexual harassment are in the work arena because you can sue for an actual profit. so I think greediness is also an issue.

if people are too shallow and vacuous to even begin to admit there is anything wrong, then they should go distract themselves with a shiny new object or watch gladiators and leave the people who give a d**n to try to help.

  10. What do you expect them to do? People are going to do whatever the heck they feel like regardless of the consequences.

  11. Women already have special laws(like the Violence Against Women Act) made specifically for them.  These kind of laws also allow female abusers to get away with it when they abused men.

    What more do they want?

  12. Well my belief is you rape, molest or kill you should be killed.  No time in jail, no benefits just death.  I bet that would make a person think first before harming someone.

  13. "Being a World traveller i can tell u the US is the worst."

Apparently, your world travels failed to take you to South America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and even parts of Southern Europe.

Domestic violence is certainly still a problem in the U.S., but calling it "the worst" in the world is a tad hysterical and hyperbolic and undercuts your assertion.

Edit: When you speak of "walking the streets at night," you're talking about crime, not domestic violence.
