Is the Hawaiian myth about the lava rocks true??

I heard that if you take a lava rock from Hawaii, it will bring you bad luck. Has this ever happened to anyone? Has anyone ever taken a rock and not received bad luck?

Hawaiian say that so tourists will stop stealing their rocks. I dont blame them. Clever way to scare tourists though.

I've actually heard that one from a Hawaiian he said his grandmother always told him it angered Pele (goddess of the volcano) to remove the rocks from the site of the volcano.
