on paper, they have the best man to man coverage defense.  you dont really need to double anyone on the opposing team with this team now.

the rockets were already a good defensive team to start with anyway, and now they added artest, so it would seem like they are one of the top defensive teams in the league.

i have to say no but by reading these other responses its slear everyone is under rating their D because they are one of the best. Especially with a line-up of T-Mac Yao Battier and Artest in at the same time. I dont think they can stop a team with a dominate pg though. The Celtics have the best D

first off for everyone that said cleveland had good defense..your ****** crazy..and no houston isnt..unless yao mcgrady and raefer alston try plaing defense they wont..until the spurs lose bruce bowen they will always be the best defensive team..and boston is no longer a good defensive team without james posey

Since the last game that mattered showed a certain team clamping down and embarrassing the Lakers.... No other team can be better until the regular season starts.

i would think so but we still need to see how ron will jell in with the rockets, but a lot of nba analysts do think that they are definitely on the top 3 defensive wise along with boston and the spurs.  not until the season begins and/or the rockets play a great team like boston (Nov. 4) and win defensively i can't really say that the rockets are the best defensive team in the league.

but the luxury of having a player that is constantly a top 3 candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year in Shane Battier, could really help the Rocket's bench defense.  he could probably and hopefully be a player like James Posey was in the NBA Finals as a player that can come off the bench and guard the best offensive players in the game like Kobe and Lebron.  simply because he is a player that hustles for the ball, gets a key rebounds, steals, or blocks in pressure moments, and could hit a three when open.

Yes they are, if they are 100% healthy.

Boston in in close second, though Bostons offense is better than Houston's.

The Spurs and the Pistons defence are both not quite what they used to be, they are both slipping a little bit in that department.
