Question:

Is the IB (International Baccalaureate) good for applying at Oxbridge?

I got 5A*s 5As and a B in my Gcses and I am pretty gutted. I am really keen in learning classics (latin) or philosophy at Oxbridge and I am not sure if I am going the right way about it or if my grades are worth applying for.

Are my grades good enough and how good is the IB course for uni?

  1. Are you kidding? What is it exactly you're gutted about? the B? Or that you didn't get all A*s????

Those are incredibly good grades. Someone my brother knew actually cried because she got one A instead of all A*s when she did her GCSEs. I can't help thinking that you're just setting yourself up for failure if you expect to get A* all the time, not to mention it's just showing off, isn't it?

And yes, the IB is very good for applying to any UK university. It is a hard course (and involves extra things such as community service etc) but pretty much just having it can get you into most universities because it's so hard, even if you don't get very good marks. You might want to check out Oxbridge's admissions requirements though.
