Is the IPL tournament too long & needs to be shortened?

I think they should scrape the number of games by half (56 now, should be shortened to 28) to make the tournament exciting and worthwhile watching. So, instead of each club playing 14 games ( against 7 other clubs at home as well as away), they should play only 7 games (say 3 at home and 4 away). The shorter the league, the more exciting it will turn out to be.

I agree that this is not what the IPL would have intended to do (they wanted to emulate the English Premiership), but realistically speaking a shorter tournament would prove to be more exciting and more profitable (kind of like the World Cup)

What are your thoughts on this?

yeah because halfway through the tournament people will get bored and stop watching it

Yer i think it is. I think at teh end of it..people are just going to be bored of it...It's like eating your favorite flavoured ice-cream over and over again. After a while it's not your favorite.

Yes, I have to agree with you on that. The reason the Football Premiership is so popular despite the fact that it is so long is because it is built upon the utmost passion and loyalty of the fans towards their clubs or their cities that are playing in the league. So basically the fans do not mind watching their side play 38 gruelling games the whole season and paying for the tickets for all the games, because they are so passionate about their team in the Premier League.

In cricket, however this is the first time the club format is coming into picture & I'm not sure if the clubs will be able to sustain that much passion from their fans in the very first season itself - keeping this in mind, the organizers should have taken this slowly one step at a time & started with a short, exciting tournament & in the later seasons should have extended the format to what it is now. That would have, in my opinion, been a very good and profitable decision.

So yes, the tournament needs to be shortened - but I guess it is too late to talk about it now that the games are on...
