Is the IUD a good option for women who have migraines with the pill?

My wife has tried just about every type of pill under the sun and every time she has experienced the same results...monster migraines starting about three months after she starts taking it. She has told me she is thinking about trying the IUD (specifically Mirena). Will this help with her migraines?

  1. The Mirena still releases hormones so wouldn't be too certain that she wouldn't have any problems with it (the web research suggests 1-10 women in every 1,000 experience migraines on it, with headaches being a more common 1-10%). There's the old fashioned non-hormonal IUD though but that can lead to heavier periods. I gave up on hormonal contraception after developing a real migraine problem (was truly dreadful and left me a wreck) and the migraines stopped. I felt like a new person!

  2. ....if the migraines were caused by the hormones in the pills then NO, minera will not help.  Minera releases the same hormones (only this one would be implanted into her, she couldnt' just stop taking it.)

There is a copper IUD - no hormones, works for I think 5 years.

  3. it may if its the hormones or chemicals in the pills causing her headaches. i have a mirena and i love it no pain no periods no remembering to take a pill or going to get a shot.and it good for 5 years i would recommend it

  4. Yes, it is, and there are some horror stories about them of course, because people don't go out of their way to share good experiences. If she wants to get rid of those headaches though, she should get the paraguard copper IUD. I have one because hormones gave me daily headaches and mood swings so I switched to the copper IUD. The Mirena IUD has a small amount of hormones in it that Doctors SAY don't make much of a difference, but it's not true, many women who have had problems with hormonal BC methods in the past experience much the same problems with the Mirena IUD. but if she is reall considering it, give her this website to look at, it's kind of weird but it really helped me in my decision, and the only way she'll know how it will affect her is to try it and it can be removed at any time and is VERY effective. The terrible things you hear about it are such a slim possibility, just like stroke blood clot and heart attcks are a slim possiblity of taking the pill, my point is, everything in the world is a risk, just have her look at this:http://community.livejournal.com/iud_div... Good luck for her!!

  5. They're starting to have negative results due to the IUD. I would think of a different solution for safe s*x if I were you.

  6. I would not go for the IUD; there are so many problems with this producer. i know  of  a girl that had  a IUD put in and after a year she became very ill, so she went to the gynecologist  that put in the IUD in , they did some blood test on her and discovered  a kidney infection , as a result  she lost her kidney. your wife  should talk to her gynecologist about a diaphragm or have a tubal ligation.
