Is the Italian Riviera (Cinque Terre) worth visiting in February?

We are going to be in Italy for the first week of February and I would like to visit Cinque Terre on the Italian Riviera, but I don't know what kind of weather to expect. Will it likely to be warm enough to be fun hiking outside? All the great pictures look like they were taken in the summer...

  1. who know? 2 days ago was really cold, yesterday there were 27°C, today is cooler... weather is incredibly hot this year(untill now..),can't be sure on what you find..

and yes,it's true, Portofino is really beautiful

  2. It might rain a bit and be a bit windy and perhaps cold but overall should be nice and should not stop you from hiking.

  3. yes, I lived in La Spezia nera of the Cinque Terre(Monterosso, Corniglia, Vernazza, Manarola and Rio Maggiore), and the weather is ever good!!! and hot!!!

  4. No, it's great!

Riviera Ligure is a climatic zone, I think about 20-25°C

  5. Depending on which of the towns you are planning on visiting, be aware that some or many of the restaurants will be closed for the winter. Hotels may be scarce as well, but you'll know that before you go by checking them out. These towns operate year-round, but the locals will only open in the winter if it makes business sense. Yes, the photos you have seen were probably taken in summer. The weather is relatively mild, as winters go, but it could be a windy, cold rain if you hit it wrong. Hiking will not be miserable if it isn't too wet. If it's been raining, the trails between the towns will be muddy (except where it is paved). Try www.wunderground.com for all your weather planning worldwide. Us pilots live by it. I was just in Italy for the past month. It was beautiful on many days but that cold rain is common on the coasts in the winter. If the weather is good, you'll get to see these towns like very few others do. Not crowded! They have become TOO popular in the tourist season, with good reason, they are amazingly beautiful and quaint (in the off season). I'm not sure if you are planning to spend the night in them or not, but if you are having trouble finding a place to stay or decide you want a few more restaurant choices at night, take the train to La Spezia and stay there. Then take day trips to the Cinque Terre towns. If you are worried about restaurants, pack a day pack with lunch. That's fun anyway. You'll love it.

    Buono Vacanza!
