  1. It's not *completely* free.  You'll still have to pay the typical public school fees for your area.

The curriculum is free, the materials are free, and so is the loaned computer and printer/fax/copier.  However, you'll still have some costs involved to do science & art projects, etc.

Sorry, Music Mist, *you* are incorrect.  If you don't have a K12 virtual school/academy available, you *can* "attend" K12.  You just purchase it as an independent homeschooler.  It's how we've used it for 6 years now.  As a HS'er, you don't "attend", though, you use the curriculum just like you would if it was A beka, Alpha-Omega, Calvert, etc.

  2. Here is a link to the states that have free k12

  3. Only if available free where you live. If where you live is listed in the Get K12 section, then yes. Otherwise, you have to pay.

ADDED: Music, how am I wrong? What you tried to explain is exactly what I said. So, if I'm wrong, so are you. :)

  4. Many online charter schools are popping up all over. Many of them are now using k12 products. k12 schoolsare good for many reasons. Each student is given a placement test and then given individualized curriculum based on his or her individual needs. With the help of online charter schools today, homeschooling can be much easier than it used to be. They provide you with everything you need, a computer, a printer, books, supplies, and teachers that you can both email and call for help and assistance. This is free and there are no charges. Online schools are definitely becoming a way of the future for the children in generations to come.

Going to an online school is no different than going to a traditional public school or a private school. They graduate with a real diploma the same as any school. My son graduated from an online charter school and now attends a private university (University Of Dayton) with scholarships. They will also help you with making sure that all state required tests are done yearly and proficiencies are completed for graduation.

There are some that are affordable if there are not any free ones where you live.

  5. Actually, glurpy is right.  K12 is offered as a free public virtual school in some states, but it's offered nationwide as a paid, private program (their resources without state oversight).

If you live in a state that offers it, yes, it's free.  Otherwise, you can get it as a "direct" customer and pay for the curriculum.

  6. For some states

  7. k12 (k12.org) is a fantastic program.  It is free if your state has a charter for it.  Check out the website.  Their curriculum is great.  They also provide a computer, a printer, and all textbooks to you with no charge.  It is a "public" school.

  8. Glurpy is wrong you wouldn't pay anything if you lived in another state, but if you live in a state other state that does not have k12 then you can't attend the school. I went to the school 4-8 th grade and one year in highschool and payed nothing, its a really good school.
