Question:

Is the Kentucky Derby an abuse to animals?

Horse were not made to run excessively. The weight of their bodies causes fracture to their legs and they ultimately are put down...as seen in the Derby race today where the horse broke both leg ankle bones and had to be shot.

  1. I see it not as abuse but not as kind.  That poor animal ran itself to death.

  2. ... No.

  3. I don't think it is. These animals have been breed for the ability to race. They thrive on it. It is innate.

  4. horse racing in general is cruel.. no two ways about it.. especially how it is done in USA and Canada.. horses are stabled most of the day.. this causes their bones to atrophy..(weaken).. in England horses are stabled mostly at home.. and spend more time out of the stalls.. they are shipped to race meets all over the place as meets are usually only 2 weeks long at any track.. the tracks are bigger with fewer turns so are overall much better for the horses themselves.

Most horses are NOT even ridden at the age race horses are.. but in a hurry to get them onto the track and making money they often have riders on their back as early as 1 yr (in the fall before they are 2)..

they are pushed to run full speed at young age.. something VERY bad for them

in USA and Canada race horses have much shorter careers than in the UK..

I could go on and on..
