My wife have one and everyone slags them off on internet forums. Are they really that bad if you drive them with respect and keep an eye on coolant/oil levels?

  1. We used to have one at work as a patrol car.......... It was in the Garage more than at work.

I love Landrover, and it really dissapointed me.

  2. I've had a few Landrovers, including a Freelander.

They've all been good cars to me and I was a high mileage driver.

Just watch out for head gasket issues on some of the petrol engined Freelanders.

  3. Absolutely. It's a Ford Escape with corners cut and a British foundation which indicates it'll be a clunker in the near future. She/you should have put pride aside and gotten the Ford or Mercury. In fact, I believe the Mercury is far more luxurious. If the Freelander isn't in the shop more than 15 days a month, you got lucky.

Bad move on your wife's part.

  4. It's not that bad a car more a Chelsea tractor than a proper land rover I mean even the disco 3 had good off-road ability even though people underestimate it. but freelanders don't have a good off-road ability they are school run cars that's about it!

  5. I know two people that have owned them. Both the diesel variant. One was owned for three years & they had no probs with it. The other has been owned for severn years & is still going strong with no major complaints apart from the rear door seal failing. How ever there was a problem with head gaskets blowing on some early models.
