Question:

Is the London University external programme good?

I don't have the resources to go to a university and study. So I looked at universities offering distance learning. I found the London University's external programme (I'll most probably do LLB) and I want to know if anyone has studied in it and if it is good? And please feel free to suggest other universities.

I don't want any links to their website because I've been there. I want to know somebody's first hand experience (or second hand ;-).

Thanks a lot!

  1. Hi,

I'm not sure what LLB is, but I've been an external student through the LSHTM (a school of the UOL) for about 4 years now.  While some of the delivery formats are a bit antiquated, they are quickly improving.  For the program that I am sitting, typically books and a reader / study guide will be sent out at the beginning of the year.  Each lesson guides you through the reading and questions as well as makes excellent clarification points.  For problems with the assignments and readings there is a webboard where you can ask questions of the course tutor (their typical turn around time is 2-3days).  Currently the trend is towards more CD-ROM and podcasts, but virtual classrooms are still a bit in the future, at least for this program.  The cost is comparable to most distance programs, and being one of the most respected universities in the world helps by way of reputation!  Overall, it's an excellent program and one that should definitely be checked out, especially if you don't have a great deal of time to go to a traditional school (I work full time and am able to complete a full work load of courses while still saying sane, something I couldn't do if I was locked into a traditional classroom setting).

    Good luck!
