  1. The evacuations have been much smoother this time.  People have been evacuated on buses in many parishes.  Even pets are getting evacuated at this time.

Boo, I just read your comment, so I'm adding.  People in the rest of the country seem to think Nagin didn't order a mandatory evacuation for Katrina, but he did.  I watched him on WWL the Saturday night before Katrina BEGGING people to leave.  Literally, he was near tears.  Has that clip ever been shown to a national audience?

Another thing I don't think people outside of south Louisiana don't realize is the reason why they didn't want to use the Superdome as a shelter is because it was used as a shelter several years before Katrina and it was a disaster.  I believe it was used for one of the two tropical storms that hit Louisiana in 2002.  Many of the people who were housed in the Superdome, mind you they were only there for about 8 to 10 hours, looted the concession stands (kind of understandable) and were literally taking sofas and televisions out of the building.  I swear to you I saw video footage of people doing this on the news.  My point is lay off Nagin and Blanco.  It was a bad situation before FEMA every got involved.

  2. Last time they didn't have enough buses.  FEMA dropped the ball during Katrina.  Bush had stupidly gutted the agency and was left with a bunch of rookies!

  3. You wouldn't last a second in New Orleans.  Evacuated or not.

  4. the buses are being used as we type.

  5. Since he's already ordered mandatory evacuations, he may just have learned his lesson.   I think this new governor will not tolerate indecisiveness and push back like the last one did.
