Is the Mint Julep the nastiest drink on earth or do you LOVE it?

If you think it's nasty do you drink one any ways when at the Derby?

I think it's nasty but I drink one anyways. It's just one of those things you do. If you go to Wrigley, you drink an Old Style, when at the Derby you stomach a Mint Julep.

I can't go this year unless I can convience my wife that I don't need to be at her cousin's wedding 2morrow.

  1. I'm a traditionalist myself but i kinda like the mint julep(now, that I know how to spell it LOL) my Father in law makes them from scratch boils the mint leaves and makes the syrup. But we use wild turkey 101 so after a couple anything tastes good LOL. Love the "Old Style at Wrigley our tradition also involves finally making it to the Blarney Stone for $1.00 chicago style dogs

  2. You know... it is tradition.  I like bourbon, so a well made mint julep works for me, but it is definitely a love hate thing.  Old Style is like Drano, but also a noble tradition.

As for the wedding, they say that diarrhea is the 'Crescent wrench of excuses.'

  3. I agree with you 100% on all accounts!!

  4. I like a well made Mint Julep myself....but I'd much rather have a Mojito or a Martini! ;)

    It's martini time!

Is there open bar at the wedding? I'll go in your stead.

I'll just say: "I am not Roadkill...but he approves this message."

  5. I'd have to say "yes" it is the WORST!!!

  6. I'd rather stomach a Mint Julep, than MY ( or your ) cousin's second wedding....

    Good luck this weekend.

  7. At first I was surprise a man would not like the "Mint" but after reading how your wife tells you what to do then it all became clear.   Real men like to have a Mint or three on Derby Day and a real man would be going to the Downs instead of your cousins wedding.

  8. No, Southern Comfort is the nastiest beverage on the planet !!

  9. I think it's nasty and don't drink one anyway because nobody wants to clean up my vomit.

Gotta agree with CrashFu - the diarrhea  excuse has saved me from more than one unfortunate wedding invitation (my in-laws must think I have irritable bowel syndrome).

  10. I don't like traditional Mint Juleps. If you want to stick to the tradition try this recipe. I made some alterations that make it pretty addictive.

  11. I've never had one and I've never had the pleasure of going to the Derby.  This year however I thought it would be fun to have a mint julep at home during the race and the derby website said that they sell ready made mix at stores so I went to get some but I couldn't find any.  So I ended up getting mojitos and I'm going to pretend it's mint juleps ;o)
