The NHL is the top league in world, no matter who the player or what league they play in, they want to be in the NHL. Malkin ran away from the Russian Elite league to play in the NHL. More money, more fame, and more talent is available in the NHL. This is not to say that the other leagues are not great also, but the NHL is the top. This is why you see over 90% of Olympic Ice Hockey Players are from the NHL.
