Is the NY Times Magazine Ethicist Ethical?

"The Ethicist" author, Randy Cohen, in the magazine advises people on ethical issues. In reading his articles over the course of the last few years, I've noticed he's never stated the source of his ethical opinions i.e. the Bible, The Talmud, Ann Landers old columns. Is it ethical that he's not providing a basis for ethics?

I  do not believe sources are required to give advice, it is left up to the individual if they accept it or not.
