Is the NYPD worth it? NYPD auto-crime section?

Hey, im deciding what I should do in my after college life. I've just currently signed up for some criminal justice courses. Im thinking about joining the NYPD after im out of school but is it really worth joining with a salary of only $35,881 and a top salary of only $65,382? Also is anyone in the NYPD auto-crime section? I think I might be interested in doing that if i pursue in the NYPD and what are some advantages and disadvantages of working in the NYPD?

Aside from the pay, benefits and retirement for law enforcement are usually better than the private sector.
