Is the North End of Halifax a safe place to live?

A group of us guys (5 guys ages from 19-28 or so) are moving out to Halifax for work. We're looking at getting a property in the north end of the halifax peninsula, between the Citadel and the MacDonald bridge (creighton street). The place we've found seems great but I've been hearing bad things about the neighbourhood. Is it a safe place to live? We will be out at work most of the week, do we need to worry about what we leave in our home?

  1. There is a bit of seediness around Creighton Street. With Uniacke (Maniac) Square nearby, a hotbed of drug use, welfare and prostitution, there is a  risk of getting broken into. Just be careful with whom you hang out and where and you (and your stuff...) will be just fine. Most crime in Halifax is limited to "not a random act."

Stay clear of the "thugs" and the thugs'll stay clear of you.

  2. Um ya thats probubly the most dangerous part of halifax but its really not that bad and its getting better alot better one of my friends just built a huge new house over on Cogswell which is right by creighton street and they realyy like it though creighton street also runs parrelel to gottingen street and on gottigen is the square and its like public housing i mean i kno a couple people who live or have lived there and they say its not too bad but so far scince i think september there have been 2 murders their and like there are alot of fights thefts prostitution and alot police around.

id say therre are good things klike its cheep and close to alot of cool torist attractions and some shopping but there are also some bad things. Everyone is trying to makr the area better so u would b taking a big risk by living there but it might pay off who knos in 5 years it might be as nice as the south end but anyways good luck
