Is the Philippines a democracy?

in your opinion, is democracy observed in the philippines?

Yes it is a democracy even if some or more than a few think otherwise.  A democracy is a government for the the people by the people and of the people.  The officials in government are elected by the people, they are suppose to represent the will of and are the voice of the people and the government is suppose to work for the benefit and interest of the people.  While it is true that the present government and even some past governments of the Philippines appear not to really be working for the benefit and best interest of the people but for their best interest and their families and friends, the fact remains that the philippines is still a democracy since the people are still free to exercise their right to vote and elect its officials, they are free to express their opinions, they are free to choose whom to vote for.  The only problem is that the people themselves do not wisely exercise these rights and elect officials who are corrupt.As a result, they are taken advantage of and they have no one to blame but themselves.  Anyway, by choosing to be passive and to improperly exercise their rights, they are still exercising their rights which is only possible under a democracy.Yes, democracy is still observed in the Philippines although not as perfectly as it should.

masouk is right philippines is indeed a democratic country.. i guess the weakness of democracy lies within its people... if the people fails to decide correctly... they end up with a bad government.... unfortunately the reality of this is that it was the decision of the people in the frist place... the people who voted for the wrong leaders are the one who is really to blame... but even if the decision was wrong... democracy still ruled becaused its still the voice of the people, no matter how bad it is.
