  1. it breaks my heart..but YES ... my dear country is considered a third world country.. :-(

  2. unfortunately it is, you can blame their government corruption for that, the people suffer so much because of the corrupt officials there.

  3. at least not 4th...

  4. The label "Third World Nation" is an artificial title based on economist Alfred Sauvy's attempt to separate developed nations from those that are underdeveloped..... There is a lot of argument as to the appropriateness of the label.

There is no question the Philippines has not reached it's full potential economically..... and therefore falls into this artificial category.... but it should NOT be misconstrued to impugn the nation or its people in anyway other than the fact of economic development

In order to develop economically you need investment / venture capital .....MONEY..... for a variety of reasons venture capital is in very short supply here..... once that problem is solved the Philippines could easily attain First World status

  5. Funny how defensive people get about being called "third world."

In Western society's viewpt (which I assume is your position), it is.

If it weren't so bad economically and politically, they wouldn't have the problem of "brain drain." Filipino people are the world's best workers, in my humble opinion, but it's the ones who want to keep the status quo for personal reasons (money, family ties, aristocracy), laziness, or pride who hold the country back from realizing its full potential.

It's sad to say, but most (not all) of the smartest, hardest working pinoys eventually leave for greener pastures.....and the ones left are the ones who aren't competitive enough (or lazy) or who genuinely care and try to make the country better, but b/c of the sheer majority of the former, are unable to without the solidarity they need from, ironically enough, the ones who have already left.

(My final answer-is, yes, PI is a 3rd world country if you are looking at it from the perspective that I assume you are. But for those who take offense-this is reality. Global reality. Instead of being offended, I think that it should be taken as constructive criticism and instead of being reactive, perhaps be more PROACTIVE).

  8. Partly yes and no.  Filipinos should think wisely before they start to have a family. Some say, 'anak yaman sa buhay' it means the children are the jewels in life. If this is correct.  Success start in the family and education.

  9. for now it still is.

  10. The term "third Word country" has been rendered  obsolete and outdated, check it out yourself.  There is no more  second word- which was how they used to describe  the communist block,  they have long been gone, and so is the first world, the second world and the third world.  USSR has been disbanded and is now composed of 15 tiny nations.

People, particularly Filipinos should stop  accepting this term for this is very insulting and demeaning. True,  the country's GDP/GNP is not something to be proud of, but there are  economic  terms which is more respectable and more acceptable to all.

Fellow Filipinos, stop putting your country down. We, even in  our little capacity should  do something. We should  all make a united stance and  not allow other people to stamp us down.

  11. During the 1950's cold war era those countries politically aligned with the USA and NATO were considered 1st world,  Those aligned with the Soviet Union and communism were the 2nd world.  Everybody else was considered "third world countries".  Most were in the southern hemisphere but others like Saudi Arabia were also considered third world countries.  The borrowed term "third world country" we hear so much today refers to developing countries but, even that is subjective.  I'm afraid I'd have to know some qualifying factors before I declared ANY country "third world".

  12. ay it is

  13. I hate to admit it but its real.

I wish I had the powers to change my nation.

  14. I think so, but our president thinks otherwise... she said that the Philippines is a second world country now... but I very much doubt that. T_T

  15. Yes, Yes.
