I grew up hearing that the punk rock hand sign (index and pinky fingers straight up, middle and ring finger folded, and thumb crossed in front of the middle and pinky finger) is a sign that was create to represent the devil. Can anyone tell me how the sign was originated and what it really means?

  1. I always thought it was a druid hand sign for Mithras the Great Bull.

  2. yes. go to this link plz.

  3. ..It's part of the pagan hand ritual that dispels the evil eye when some one is cursed with it...read Scott Cunningham for the full ritual

....shock value has adopted it, like many pagan beliefs, as anathema to Christian sensibilities, and they include it simply to rile up the opposition, who really seem to be easy to rile up these days...

  4. It was originated as the I love you sign. Pinky, Index finger, and the thumb. On stage though, while holding a guitar pick, it was inmpossible to put the thumb up. So it changed to pinky and the index finger.

  5. that has nothing to do with punk, it was more about metal. ronnie james dio claims he was the first person to start doing that.

  6. It's popular among fans of heavy metal, not punk.  Ronnie James Dio wanted to have a hand sign because Ozzy Osbourne used the peace sign onstage.  So Dio copied a sign his Italian grandma made. It's a "corna" and it's supposed to ward off the "evil eye".

  7. Yeah, from Pat Robertson(idiot). No it is not a sign of the devil. That would be the dollar bill.

  8. Ronnie dio says he started that and he says it's a sign of devil horns/metal

  9. It means ROCK ON!

You crazy cultists have your magical thinking and silly stylized rituals, now you're going for magical hand signs?

  10. It is widely used by satanists, and for anyone to downplay it and say it's nothing, is just plain ignorance and wilfull blindness.

  11. James Dio started it, it was based on the genre of music of Metal not punk and it just means Keep it Metal, or ROCK ON!

  12. It Has Nothing Too Do With The Devil,

Once Again.. The Fundamentalists finding satan where there is no satan...

  13. No. It is not the sign of the devil at all.
