  1. They are third cousins. The link is through Queen Alexandra, wife of King Edward VI and daughter-in-law of Queen Victoria.

    Queen Alexandra was Danish.

Philip is Danish-German.He has no Greek blood;his family was appointed to the position of Greek monarchy by the royals of Europe. No other family wanted the job and Philip's family were in need of a job as they had no money.

  2. It's quite possible.

  3. Yes, although they are distant cousins.  They are not first cousins.  In the united states second cousins can marry in all states (that I'm aware of) and first cousins can marry in some.  Philip and Elizabeth are second or third cousins, probably third (I'd have to look at their tree to answer for sure)

The quip about her not being the Queen of England is correct.  She's Queen of the United Kindgom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.  "England" hasn't been a legal country since 1707.

  4. Yes he is her third cousin and as to what someone put on here earlier she is a Queen of England it is her homeland and she is crowned Queen of England. Just because there is a United Kingdom now it does not mean that England does not still exist.

  5. Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom did indeed marry her second cousin once removed Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (formerly Prince of Greece and Denmark). They are both descended from Christian IX of Denmark – Elizabeth II is a great-great-granddaughter through her paternal great-grandmother Alexandra of Denmark, and Prince Philip is a great-grandson through his paternal grandfather George I of Greece. As well as second cousins once removed, the couple are third cousins: they share Queen Victoria as a great-great-grandmother. Elizabeth's great-grandfather was Edward VII, while Edward's sister Alice, Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine was the Duke's great-grandmother.

Note: Prince Philip had renounced his claim to the Greek throne and was simply referred to as Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten before being created Duke of Edinburgh prior to their marriage

  6. Lets get things right, there is no Queen of England. The only Queen of England was Queen Elizabeth the first, and ,she never married.

  7. He sure is. All the royal families of europe are related along the line somewhere.

  8. Technically, yes.  However, he is the great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria and the Queen is the great-great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria.  Two of Queen Victoria's daughters married German Royals and this is where the Queen & Philip came from.  The only other nationality the Queen has besides German, is from her mothers side, which was Scottish.
