I know new diesel engines are designed for low sulpher diesel. Red diesel as a slightly higher sulpher content and I understand can cause problems with injectors with prolonged use on the latest engines. Is the 2005 renault 1.5 diesel engine designed for low sulpher diesel or ordinary diesel ? No guesses please. (Before any boring god botherers state the the obvious everybody knows the legals surrounding red. This is only a theretical question).

  1. In short, it'll run fine on either.

  2. You are wrong - red diesel is identical to white diesel with a chemical dye added - think about it, would my neighbour with half a dozen £35k tractors & three 150k harvesters run them on c**p?

It's all scaremongering for obvious reasons.

A mate got nailed the other week for red (second time this year), they also did him for having a percentage of heating oil in his second vehicle, which has been run on nothing other than low sulphur white diesel since he's had it. HMRC then tested the garage, then contacted the refinery, who said that there had been cross contamination (a regular occurence, apparently), and they were all apologies.

Diesels are, by nature, designed to run on a range of oils, the Renault 1.5 is a common rail, so may be fussier than many, but most will run on diesel, heating oil, vegetable oil, etc, etc,

  3. Red fuel will not harm your french car. Low sulfur came in 2006

  4. tiz bull..it will run on red,bio and even chip pan oil...
