Is the Roseland Theatre in Portland, Oregon a safe place for concerts? I have a 17 year old son.?

My son would like to go to a concert at the Roseland and I have some concerns. Would he be safe? He is 17.

  1. yeah, i've been going there since i was 13.

    i've never had a problem. but i guess it depends on the crowd that likes the band.

    so who is he seeing?

    CSS? Raconteurs? Gogol Bordello?


  2. I think he would be totally safe at the show.  The Roseland has hiked up their security so much since the first time I saw a concert there in 1991 (I was 17 at the time and had absolutely no problems then).  

    They have a security detail at the door, including metal detectors and hand wands.  They also have quite a few security folks roaming the venue during the show and across the front of the stage.

    Concerts there usually get out fairly early, so Tri-Met stil runs and there is a lot of public traffic in the area, especially as the bus mall expands across Burnside.

    As long as he doesn't linger in the area for too long after the concert (i.e. until people start leaving some of the nearby bars and over 21 clubs, he should be safe.  Especially if he goes with a friend or two or you plan to pick him up.
