Question:

Is the Royal Family a family of royal freeloaders?

In the USA our younger generations are stirring the pot and preparing to make changes to the status quo. They refuse to accept the 'norm' unless justification of the standard can be reestablished to the satisfaction of today's majority; not the majority of 50 or more years ago. Which brings me to the question: Are the young people of the UK tiring of supporting the Royal family? Does the exsistance of the Royal family bring enough money into the British economy to support themselves. Are they merely a modern day tourist attraction? In the USA we have Disney World. But the citizens of America are not taxed to support Mickey and Minnie. That'd be goofy. Will the new United Kingdom soon tell the Royal family to start earning their keep?

  1. they always have and always will live of the fat of the land at our expence?

  2. Does the Royal family bring enough money to British economy? Well, they have their own ventures generating wealth (so, actually their investments DO earn), and they certainly serve as tourist attraction also to increase tourism to UK. So, the actual impact of supporting the Royal family by taxpayers money is fairly limited... I used to live in London, UK for three years. I enjoyed all the time what I lived there (it is wonderful country when have learned few of their odd ways). In one occation I saw H.R.H. QE II and H.R.H. Prince Philip   And have to say that, they have bit more something (like aura)  than "common Presidents".  I respect H.R.H. QE II   but in comparsion,  in  my eyes President George W. Bush is something what I prefer not to write here.., but agree what one friend told: "you can find his twin in zoo eating banana...".  So, "long live the Queen!".

  3. that could possibly be...i'm sure there are alot of people who can trace their family back to royalty...the people of each country need to resolve those questions...we have our places that presidents have lived in that are being supported...presidential librarys exc...something to think about though

  4. i don't think u live in USA

kids all over the world want to change the status quo even me 50 yrs ago so first grow up then judge whole generations !

and royalty has always been a little daft....even God didn't think it was a good idea when Moses suggested it ....but now we are stuck with them

  5. That's what I hear these days. They really do spend a lot of money on senseless c**p.I would imagine the folks in the UK are tired of supporting them.If I lived there,I would be.

  6. Apparently not everyone -- especially not a Conservative -- believes all men are created equal. Even Conservatives here in the USA believe it's okay for George W. Bush to send thousands of our citizens to their deaths over his own foolish emotions.

  7. No, they're not a family of free loaders.  Only a small number are on the Civil List, the rest have to work and pay taxes the same as everyone else.  Even those on the Civil List are liable for income tax.   The Queen alone carries out some 400 public engagements every year - and she's 80 years old.

the above link explains how the finances for the Royal Family work.   As a taxpyer I'm much happier spending 62p per year (yes, per year, approx $1) supporting our monachy than I am paying for ordinary people who won't work and think the state owes them a living.

  8. I think you're onto something there. We could set up a theme park in one of the many state funded palaces. We could call it Windsor World! I'd rather pay tax to Mickey and Minnie that the royals, at least they're entertaining.

  9. No, the British Royal Family are not freeloaders.  Many pay taxes and some have "real jobs".  And, they go to "work" everyday to preserve and support their country.  They work for the benefit of the country in many ways.

And, only a Queen would be expected to continue the schedule that Queen Elizabeth maintains.  Now in her 80's she remains a model of dignity and grace and has the respect of millions around the world.

    best of luck to you!
