I have never studied U.S History but I'm planning on studying it 24*7 for the next 4 months. Will that prepare me for the test or would it be better to try the Lit test

  1. ironically those were the only two subject tests i have taken.  SAT U.S. History is not too difficult-granted, I took the AP class which pretty much prepared me for the test, I didn't study for the exam since I took it last june after the AP was already over (I was a stand-by tester, didn't even know about SAT IIs..).  Pretty much for the U.S. history you either know it or you don't, so I'm sure if you spend a lot of time learning the material, you'll do fine. I took literature last month and I didn't study for that one either because i didn't really see how you could, and my score for that one was 20 points lower than the U.S. history, yet it wasn't too bad either.  I think if you have a comfortable background in reading high-level material then you'll be fine on the literature test too :)

  2. Well, I haven't attempted the SAT History, but I bought the Barrons book for SAT Lit, and it is very difficult. If you really dedicate to studying for the history, then you'll do fine, because you just have to know the facts, but for the Lit. you have to infer, and the passages aren't easy. Then again, however, it depends on your preference; if you love english, then maybe you should give it a try. Try a practice exam for the Lit. and see how you do. Go to the collegeboard website; they have some sample problems. If you do well, then you may go with the Lit., but in general, it is a very difficult test. Good luck.
