teams are just being restricted from paying free agent players unless they want to do a sign a trade.

  1. probably but its not like the owners cant afford to pay a guy past the luxury tax, they just dont want to...those greedy b******s. but i like the salary cap because it means you actually have to plan and structure deals efficiently and you cant just buy everyone like the yankees and red sox. keeps things a little more balanced.

  2. I had no idea teams in the east got to have a higher salary cap.

  3. No you can always go over the salary cap in fact every team besides the Bobcats went over the cap last season

  4. My thought is imposing salary cap aims at creating fair competition for talents.

However, there is no restriction in Europe and if owners are willing to loose their pockets, they can virtually bring in whoever they want. As a result, dynasties in European basketball can last for decades (CSKA Moscow, for instance) because they already have a better financial structure and they are getting richer and richer, while you seldom see a dynasty in NBA which can last for over an decade over the last 20 years..

Besides, US currency is getting much weaker thanks to the negative impact generated from sub-prime mortgage crisis while US possesses a high tax-rate. Given that offers from European powerhouses are after-tax offer, there is little reason to reject.

Thus, it is not the fault of salary cap - the history is repeating itself.

  5. umm no not really,

players are going to the East because there isn't as much competitiveness as there is in the West.

And they think they will be more successful.
