  1. They are non-profit, a great organization that helps so many people,  they also maintain a low overhead, volunteers to do much of the work, thereby having more dollars to help those less fortunate

  2. I was homeless for 13 years in England. On the 23rd of December, i called the SA to see if they had vacancies at a local hostel. They did, but because i wasnt able to pay 'up front' they left me on the streets over Christmas. No room at the inn!

  3. The C.E.O.S. at Salvation Army makes over $200.000.00 a yr

does that tell you anything ? They have antique dealers on their payroll also,,

And they SELL the bulk clothing washers dyers etc, to other individuals for profit, other then giving them to poor country's or other people who really need them ,, I know I was at one of those sales ,,  They are a close 2nd worst  next to the RED CROSS for being corrupt.

  4. They are considered a non-profit organization. Most of their funding comes from grants.

They provide a large number of services such as inpatient substance abuse treatment, "soup" kitchens, shelters and many other programs.

Donations to the SA are tax deductible.

  5. It is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Indeed, they pay salaries of staff -- they pay their accountants, managers, marketing people, facilities managers, etc. They also pay rent, utilities, legal fees, costs of equipment, tranportation, etc. What makes them a nonprofit is that they do not pay their board of directors, and staff do not receive raises based on the amount of money raise each year (profit-sharing), as well as the fact that they are driven by their mission, rather than by making as much money as possible.

The idea that issues like poverty, AIDS, domestic violence, etc., can be addressed ONLY by volunteers whenever they have some extra time to give, rather than by trained professionals with expertise in healthcare, counseling, etc., is quite a fantasy.
