I was going through some of the questions posted on the site asking whether it was safe to travel to Bangkok during this time, and so far people have been saying it's ok as long as the govenment areas are avoided because the protests are held there. I will be going to Bangkok on the 19th (flying in from Krabi) and will be staying in the Silom/ Sathorn area. Is that safe enough? :) Also i'm guessing that Krabi is far enough from the current action that's taking place so i'm hoping i can still enjoy the vacation i've been planning and looking forward to for a couple of months now?

  1. Yes, you'll be OK. Just don't go to Khao sarn road.

  2. That area is far from where the protesters are right now.  I be more worried about Krabi airport being open.

  3. Yes, those areas are not effected by the protest.  Majority of the commercial areas and tourists areas are not effect.  You can find the report in NY Times today that the city is still going on like everyday.

The local travel between city had some effect a few days ago but only 20% (again from NY Times today).  By the time you are there, my guess is that everything will be running.

The most important is that safety is not a real issue.  The worse case scenario is the flight or bus to Krabi might be cancelled but based on report today, I doubt it.
